Holy Humidity!

25 Jun

So I’ll recap the whole week of training…. I’m not very good at blogging every day yet 🙂

Tuesday: 2.5 miles @ 8:00, 1 hour of Pilates

Wednesday: 3 miles @ 8:20ish (my garmin died haha), Wakeboarding 1 hour

Thursday: 5 miles long run 47:42 @ 9:32, 1 hour of coed softball
splits:          mile 1: 9:57
                      mile 2: 9:45
                      mile 3: 9:30
                      mile 4: 9:22
                      mile 5: 9:11

Tonight is 3 miles and I plan on doing some abs as well. I also signed up for the 5 mile Park2Park next Sunday… at least I now know I can run 5 miles straight  ha! I also picked up a new bright pink sports bra last night after my game… I’m thinking I’ll wear it for the 5 mile race. I’ll take a pic and update my post this weekend 🙂 After great reviews from Christine, I also bought the Nike LunaRacer 2’s to try out… I ordered an 8, but I also have custom orthotics that have to fit in the shoe as well. Needless to say I should have gone with my gut and ordered the 8.5’s! I should recieve those on Monday though… but so far I absolutely love them!! Once I get the right size and my orthotics aren’t making a squeaking noise everytime I walk in them, I think I just might be in running heaven! These shoes are soooo light and I love the feeling of running so close to the ground. Since I bought new shoes, I also needed to buy new socks 🙂 I got 3 pairs of Nike socks in pink, white, and blue…. I have lots of pics to take and updating to do it looks like!

Steamboat 4 Mile

22 Jun

My morning started out at 5:00am… I ate a bowl of Special K Red Berries cereal and drank some water. I got dressed and ready and was on the road by 5:30. I recently got a lovely speeding ticket so I’m forced to drive a lot slower than I’m used to. I live about an hour away from Peoria and the race line up was at 6:50 and I still needed to stop by starbucks for my tall skinny caramel latte. I arrived in Peoria at about 6:45 and still needed to find parking!! Luckily I found a spot on the side of the road and hurried to grab my ipod and Garmin. I drank the rest of my bottle of water and realized I also needed to use the restroom. I had no idea where I was going so I just started following the rest of the people that were milling about. I found a port-a-pottie and waited in line. While standing there I realized that I had forgotten to take off my sunglasses!! No matter how cute they are, I really didn’t want to wear them running but I had no choice because I could hear the announcer say that everyone should be lined up and ready to go. I sprinted down the road and found my pace time…. my friend Rocco found me and asked to run with me since I told him I’d be trying to run around 8 minute miles. I sort of tweaked my foot/ankle about a week ago so the only running I had done in the past week was 4 miles on monday night and playing softball on thursday. Oh-and I got in some wakeboarding on thursday night as well 🙂

I could definitley tell that I hadn’t ran for most of the week as I was feeling rather tired… my foot was pounding, but that didn’t stop me from trying to meet my goal time of 31 minutes. At around mile 2 I grabbed some water and that slowed my pace a little bit… but I picked it back up and kept good timing throughout the rest of the race. I did leave enough energy to sprint through to the finish line and pass about 10 people on the way…. it always feels good to end a race sprinting 🙂

Rob and Christine ran the 15k so I grabbed some water, found another friend who was waiting for another 15k runner, and we headed up to cheer them on. After they finished we all headed over to wait for the awards ceremony… Christine finished 16th overall female 🙂 So of course we had to get some pics while we were waiting!

Christine and Me

Me arresting Christine for being WAY too speedy 🙂

When I got home I also realized that the last 4 mile race I ran I finished in 35:57 so I got a PR with a time of 31:39!! Since this day had started out so awesome I invited Rob and Christine down for boating to continue the wonderful day.

My 5k time was 25:00 so this was also a new PR for me!

Tremont 5K

22 Jun

Running late of course…. We arrived 10 minutes before the race started and still had to register!! My cousin Shanae also ran her first 5k with me and it was so nice to have her there.  We both made a quick trip to the bathroom and went to the starting line. It was so humid so I’d been drinking lots of water the whole week prior to the race.

This was my first race in a year! The last race I ran was the Tremont 5k in 2009. My finish time last year was 28:21 and this year I got a new PR of 25:18!  This is the first race where I haven’t felt completely awful the whole time that I was running!  I ran the first mile and was trying to keep my pace over 8 minutes not knowing how much energy I’d have left at the end. Mile 2 went by and my cousin decided to slow down so I was running on my own until the finish. I still felt great! I finished the race with lots of energy and actually think that I may have had a smile on my face… which is definitley a first for me!

After the race we found Rob and Christine who also both PR’d! Since I haven’t been running, it has really cut down on the time that I have been able to hang out with the both of them, so this was an added bonus to running 🙂

I had been running for 3 weeks about 2 times a week, between 2 and 3 miles at a time. I also take Pilates on tuesday nights and play softball on thursday nights. Lately, I’ve been adding in wakeboarding as cross-training as well.
