Dog Days 5k

15 Jul

This was a super hot race!!! It was at 6pm so it was still in the 80’s and sunny… and really humid! I had ran part of this course before in the Lake Run, but luckily we only had part of those rolling hills for this 5k. This was my 2nd race not being able to wear headphones…. its not something I’m real fond of. It seems like I always end up running by myself and that leads to me running slower than what I probably should.

This race started off really fast for me…. I kept trying to slow down, knowing that I can’t keep a 7 min mile pace! My first mile was def my quickest @ 7:32. I sure was feeling it at mile 3 because I was worn out! OH I almost forgot to mention that I was 2 minutes from completely missing this race altogether…. my navigation couldn’t find Lake Bloomington for some reason so I ended up all the way in Lexington and had to turn around and drive 20 more minutes (this was when I was supposed to be warming up!) to find the race location. I literally parked the truck, hopped out, and ran to the starting line and the race was off! I didn’t even have time to take off my sunglasses or make a restroom stop… which was terrible because I had just drank a whole bottle of water on my 1 hour drive there. Running on a full bladder is just not a good idea! I ran into the finish line and kept going to the restroom haha The race turned out to be about .5 miles off so even though I got a PR in this race, I have to add like 20 seconds on to my time. I was so excited thinking that I had finally broken 24 minutes… hopefully it’ll happen sooner than later 🙂  I met up with Rob, Christine, and Drew at the end of the race which is always a high point for me, being able to sit around and chat with my fastie friends!! They all had an awesome race as well 🙂

Mile 1:           7:32
Mile 2:           8:13
Mile 3:           7:50

15 Jul

It has been soooo hot lately! I’ve been trying to get my training runs in later on in the day as opposed to right after work like normal. I’m not sure its really helping as the other night I ran at 9:00 pm, no sun at all, and it was still like 85 degrees. I guess I shouldn’t complain though… last year it was SO cold and I couldn’t go boating so I wished for a hot summer. I’m so glad that I have gotten used to running in a sports bra and shorts/spandex because there’s no way I could run with extra clothing on right now! Here’s what my week or so of training  has gone (starting sometime last week):

Wed:        3.2 miles @ 8:24 pace (my hood)
Thurs:     5.2 miles @ 8:31 pace (Tipton Trails), 1 hour coed softball
Sat:           3.05 miles @ 7:45 pace (Dog Days 5k) 23:50
Mon:        3.5 miles @ 8:44 pace (my hood)
Tues:        2.5 miles @ 8:39 pace (my hood), 1 hour of Pilates
Wed:        4 miles @ 8:53 pace (my hood)

Tonight I’m off to the Lady Gaga concert in Indy, so no running for me…. but I’ll make up for it and run on Friday! My next race planned is a 5k on Saturday morning.

Park 2 Park 5 Mile

9 Jul

My morning started pretty early…. I had to do packet pick-up before the race after I parked at Fairview and rode the bus over to Miller Park. I’m usually the person that pulls in right before a race and hops out and runs to the starting line. Someone (not mentioning any names… you know who you are :)) has suggested that I need to actually start warming up before races… so since she is such a fastie and awesome runner, I took her advice! I was EARLY to Miller Park and was on my way with the warm up.  Christine found me and we continued to run so I think I ended up with 1.7 miles warmup at 10:00 pace. We also did some sprint warmups at the starting line. The race started off with a loop around Miller Park and then we turned out towards main street. I figured with it being 7:30 am it would be cool… I was soooo wrong. It was humid and hot! I felt pretty good until about mile 3.5 to 4.5… they weren’t kidding about the hills in this race. It was definitley a very tough 5 miles. I was certainly missing 5k races at this point haha. It was a very good experience, but I was worn out. I did manage to place in my age group since the awards went 5 deep!!!! Christine sent me all the pics from the race… thanks!!!!!

I will start with a catch up blog from last week. Here was my training schedule:

Wed:          4.8 miles (43:20) 9:07 pace
Thurs:       1 hour of pilates, doubleheader coed softball
Friday:     5 miles (48:07) 9:38 pace, Christine’s Hood
Sat:             1.15 miles 9:20 pace
Sun:           5 mile race  (41:12) 8:14 pace

Wed:          3.2 miles (26:20) 8:24 pace
Thurs:       1 hour of coed softball, 5.2 miles @ Tipton (44:03) 8:31 pace

Ok… so for last week…. important news… Christine and I were heading for coffee and wouldn’t you know it, we get pulled over by the cops! I’m pretty sure I attract them wherever I go so I was not surprised when he pulled up behind us and and flipped on the blueberries and cherries 🙂 It ended up that Christine receieved two tickets and they didn’t want to take her to jail… we tossed around the idea of me being her lawyer and going in and demanding to see my client. Since my services weren’t needed, Christine’s retainer for my awesome lawyering skills will be reserved for another day 🙂 (she knows I like to be paid in starbucks 🙂 ) We were both set on the idea that the officer was upset that we looked better in our cop shades than he did!

Rob, Christine, and Drew also joined me for some boating fun on Sunday… we were all sooo hot from the race that morning that chilling at the lake was perfect!

Christine and I enjoing a day on the lake!

I have also been wakeboarding on the nights that I’m not running… its an awesome back, butt, legs, abs, and arm workout. PLUS, its super fun so I don’t even realize I’m working out until I get back on the boat and I’m jello-legged haha

Me working out and not even knowing it!

I happened to stumble upon Dick’s Sporting Goods last night after my run and may have come home with some new things….. ok I did! I bought (at the request of Christine) new Nike Spandex shorts in black and a new Nike girly Pink sports bra. I’m all set for Dog Days on Saturday night!!!!
